I haven’t always been a happy person. I haven’t always enjoyed life. To be honest, there have been some pretty dark days in my past. But through perseverance of life, a willingness to just wake up another day, sometimes driving forward into a future I was committed to creating while other times taking a breath and simply surrendering to the flow of the universe, I’ve ended up here right smack in the middle of my beautiful life. And I think that the secret to true joy is not money or stuff. It’s not travel or trophies. Happiness doesn’t come from genetics, luck, or chance. Happiness has a lot less to do with circumstances than we think it does. Happiness isn’t the result of some big, out-of-reach event or attainment. Happiness is created by simple, easy things we do every day like having gratitude, speaking positively, focusing on what we want rather than what we don’t, loving people and circumstances for exactly who and what they are and exactly who and what they’re not. And patience. Success doesn’t lead to happiness. #Happiness comes first.
