What drives us? What sets apart the average from the amazing? What keeps one person on the couch while another pushes, sweats and claws their way to the top? I find myself wondering this a lot.
Two girls with regular jobs, working regualr hours, with families and all the distractions that go along with life. These two girls living parallel but vastly different lives. One wakes up 15 minutes befor she has to be at work hauls ass out the door poptart in hand. Goes through her day and draggs ass to practice. She goes through the motions in all the drils and sighs as she heads off to the bar after every practice saying “I’ll just never be good enough.” And another girl with the same life circumstances wakes up an hour early every day and trains, then heads to work and later trots into practice. She comes in and drives her way though every drill. Trying each time to out do herself. She leaves exausted and proud thinking “I will be the best.”
What sets these the apart? The “will be”s and the “never be”s. Its mind set. Its passion. Its the willingness to endure the pain, to be uncomfortable, to put in the work and the hours to be the best. It all starts with that one little thought of “will be” or “never be.” You determine your success before you ever strap on a pair of skates.
“We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.”
